(incorporating BMAF Championship)
Blyth Harbour, Blyth, Northumberland
The inclusion of the British Masters Championship meant a large entry of over 560 athletes lined up for this popular Spring event. Although cloudy with a little drizzle and mist, the wind had virtually disappeared which meant conditions were ideal.
Noah Hurton won the Mens' race while Alyson Dixon smashed Rosie Smith's 2014 record by 44secs to take the Womens' contest.
Hurton, visiting friends in the region, led home the field defeating the first veteran Richard Mair by 20secs. Hurton, a student at Oxford University had won the British Universities B race and finished 27th in the National Cross Country earlier this year.
The runner-up took the Masters M35 title, and had previously won the Scottish Masters 10,000m on the track, last year. Jordan Bell finished in third place ahead of the leading M45 athlete, Terry Scott. Jordan Middlemist was in 5th position ahead of 2nd M35 athlete Conrad Franks.
John Butters, the first Veteran in 2018, led home the M40 athletes in 10th position, while Lee Bennett took his first Masters title in 21st position, with victory in the M50 category. Guy Bracken, recent winner of the World Masters Indoor 1500m and 3000m title and 2018 BMAF Male Athlete of the Year, took the M55 award, coming home 9secs ahead of Stephen Whatmough.

Alex Sutherland gained another Scottish victory when winning the M70 title. Another double World Indoor champion, Victor Shirley was successful in the M75 age-group. Walter Ryder travelled from the North West of Scotland to win the M80 title and James Pittillo was another Scottish winner in the M85 age-group.
Dixon easily won the Womens' race crossing the finish line in 17th position. She also took the BMAF W40 title.
Following Dixon home was Elizabeth Renondeau, who took the W35 title. North Eastern Cross Country champion, Georgia Campbell followed close behind in third position. Jane Hodgson the 2nd W35 athlete, came home in 4th ahead of Tracy Millmore, overall winner in 2017 and 2018 and this time the third W35 athlete. She was followed home by teenager Robyn Bennett.
Following Dixon home in the BMAF W40 category were Ultra distance speciallist Jo Zakrzewski and another Indoor medallist Jacqui Etherington (2nd placed Steph Dann was not entered in BMAF Championship).
Kathryn Stevenson defeated Lesley Watson by 1sec in the W45 category and Kath Davis took W50 gold. Wendy Roethenbaugh, 2nd in the BMAF Cross Country Championship in Belfast, won the W55 category and Maggie Loraine took the W60 award.
Dorothy Kesterton won the W65 category, while Angela Copson , who gained 4 Gold medals recently in Torun and was runner-up in the World Masters Athlete of the Year, easily took gold in the W70 age-group.
